The factories, the assembly lines, our school 
systems, our bureaucracies, everything based upon 
fragmentation, specialism, hierarchy—have now 
been surrounded by instant environments of 
information. These environments scrap the old 
hardware, including our school systems, our 
businessworld, our industries, and substitute totally 
new forms of human awareness and organization.
